a starfish!

Thomas was messing with the fish tank the other night (what's new, right?) and randomly I hear Thomas yelling at me, "uhhhhh, I just caught a star fish!"

Isn't he cool?!! He's a brittle starfish and lives in the sand or holes of the rocks. We knew we had some in the tank because they stick their legs out at night to catch any food that comes their way, but this was the fist time we've actually been able to see the entire guy.

I was a little shocked at how big he was!

These photo's are on the blurry side because every time we
moved the cup he kept trying to avoid the light.

After I was done taking picture and ooo-ing and ahhh-ing at him, Thomas
placed him back in the tank where he QUICKLY disappeared into the sand.

little cutie.

Lara asked me to come over and take some pictures of their little cutie. One full memory card later and every trick in the book to get a tiny smile out this little one and we were left with some cute pictures.
Here are some of my favorites.

oh you little stinker, you're too darn cute!

I've gone a little crazy.

So clearly I've gone a bit crazy.. but I'm admitting it so that's okay right? Two weeks after Christmas I found this craft on one of my favorite blogs, bowerpowerblog.com and I just had to do it! Plus it was January and I was a suffering from Christmas withdrawals so clearly making Christmas decorations for next year is what cures the Christmas blues.

But seriously how can you NOT love him? I'm already so excited to bring him out in 11 months!
Can't wait big guy.
can't. wait.

The concept was simple. I gridded out the printed off image with one inch squares and then with a bit of math I figured out that each square on my 20x20 canvas was just about 3 inches. (Mama I've realized that I've completely lost you, which is why I'm currently making you yours right now! xo!)
Then it was just a process of drawing the same square on the printed off image, but bigger on the canvas.

I'm not going to lie, when I was done tracing it all out, I was a bit nervous-- it looked nothing like the cool pop art santa that I loved so much.. he looked deformed and weird and my confidence in this project was sinking fast.

Until I broke out the metallic sharpies and started coloring him in.

Here's the moment when it all started turing around and I started falling in love..

I'm seriously SO happy with how it turned out!
I love him so much!

ho. ho. HO!

a whale of a time.

My sister-in law is having a baby in March, and we're SO excited to meet our future little nephew
and become Aunt Kay Kay and Uncle Tom Tom. :)

Jenny had her baby shower this past weekend and even though we already purchased her gift, I saw this pin on pinterset and since they're decorating the nursery in a nautical whale theme I just HAD to make this for her.

I loved the simplicity of this painting. I was too afraid to free hand the whale with paint so I sketched out my whale and carefully painted the outline of this canvas in the navy color I picked out.

The hardest part of this little craft project was letting my canvases dry so I could paint the spout of water. I'm so happy with how it turned out and I just LOVE it.

And the best part is that Jenny loved it too!

the fish tank.

The fish tank is a hard thing to photograph.. but I feel like I'm getting a lot better. It's been awhile since I posted about the fish tank, so here are some pretty pictures of it that I took last night..

a belated birthday.

Lara's birthday is six days before Christmas. We had grand plans to all get together and celebrate her Birthday all before we left to go see our families for Christmas. However, her husband came down with the flu causing her and their one month old newborn to pack up and head straight to her mom's house to quarantine herself and the little one. So there went the Birthday plans.. until this past weekend!!
Lar and I took a trip to Whole Foods with Liliana and unbeknown to Lara the boys were at home decorating their house and picking up the Sprinkle Cake I made for her the night before! :)

She had no idea and was so excited that we
were FINALLY celebrating her Birthday
... just under a month late. :)

Look at that cute little family.

And this little party animal!

You can find the sprinkle cakes all over Pinterest and I've been dying to make one. I opted to go for the thicker Rainbow Sprinkles rather than the tiny dot sprinkles. Although I love the look of the tiny dot sprinkles on the cakes, I wanted to keep the mess of it all a bit under control.

And the best part is that it tasted good too!!

I'm SO happy with how it turned out! Even if I'll be finding sprinkles when
we move out of this apartment.

the mystery of the christmas tree.

Tuon's still trying to figure out what the heck happened to the Christmas tree...

She's such a funny pup, but we'll keep her.
